Less then one week until we go back to Portland. My feelings about this-:) This year in London has been a fab experience but I can’t wait to go back to Portland and see all my friends again. Milena

Stonehenge

On our way back to London, we saw Stonehenge. Stonehenge is this circle of rocks that was built 5000 years ago. I thought it was really cool. We also listened to a really interesting adiou guide that told us all sorts of imformation about Stonehenge. Did you know that it took 300 million hours of labour to make Stonehenge? I think the worst part about visiting Stonehenge was all the pictures Mom took of us. Nick

Hadrian’s Wall

When we were on the Roadtrip, we also saw Hadrian’s Wall. It was really long and it was built by a Roman Empeor named Hadrian. He built it to keep out the Scottish People. I thought it was really cool. When we were walking alongside the wall, we had to walk through lot’s of feilds with tons of farm animals. Lilly was really happy that there were so much sheep. In one field, there were two horses. The Brown was really nice while the white one was very shy. I called the Brown horse Buddy, but my mom and Lilly and Milenka decided to name him Hadrian. Along the wall, there were lot’s of remains of small forts for the Roman Guards. They were really cool. -Nick

Cornwall with Dad

Finally, Dad’s back from Australia! He was greeted with lot’s of hugs and then a half an hour later, we set off again this time, to Cornwall.

We stayed in a tiny village called Polruan in a charming little cottage. We didn’t spend much time in Polruan though. We usually always went across a river to another village called Fowey. Also we went on tons of coastal hikes and of course beaches. We also had a really great treat where we got to go go-karting and go on a huge zipline. It was awesome!

And of course we didn’t just spend our time in those towns! We also visited the more touristy places like St. Ives and Land’s End. My reaction: Too noisy. Also, places like St. Ives seem to have lost their English Countryside Charm.

Have you ever had a Cornish Pasty? Well, of course since we were in Cornwall, we had plenty. Too many infact.

From what I’ve seen of Cornwall on this trip, I think it’s really great. I will definently go back there if I’m in England again. Milena

The Lake Distric and why it is so great

For about a week on our roadtrip, we stayed in a area in England called the Lake District. We stayed in a town called Grasmere where William Wordsworth (a famous poet) once lived and also near a place where Beatrix Potter had a house. We stayed in a really nice little self acommataion place where we watched a movie all about Beatrix Potter..on her birthday! There was also a walk around a lake where we all skipped rocks and had a good time. Also on that lake we rented a rowing boat and had a picnic in the middle of the lake. This was just one of the little lakeside towns that we visited though. We did a lot of swimming in these lakes including the deepest lake in England! Unfortunatley,England’s usual weather forcast was on: Drizzly, freezing and foggy. But this was just one little town of many that we visited on our trip to the Lakes.

Fountain’s Abbey

One of the lasts things that we saw was Fountain’s Abbey. It is the most intact Abbey in Britain, with even some of it’s great arches still in place. An amazing thing about it was when a second floor fell you could still see where the wall jetted out to support the wooden floorboards. The difference between a church and an Abbey is that the Monks actually eat and sleep there, so we got to see the stone baths of a monk’s room as well as the remains of chairs and table in the Mess Hall.

It was really nice to be there with Sophie as she to was climbing on the wornd down collums. WE had a gtreat time on our trip and now looking forward to Cornwall- This time with Dad!

During our stay in Stratford-Upon-Avon we visited a public working
Tudor farm where Shakespeare’s Mom was born and he as a child spent a
great deal of time there to escape the plaque.
We fed goats and patted a horse called Barney and moved on to to see
the hairiest, largest pigs ever that resembled more like mammoths then
their “chosen breed”.

Now moving onto the interesting part; around the corner we saw a field
that holds about 10 sheep and 2 MASSIVE bulls. You all know me, I love
sheep. Desperate to get the sheep over I used the rest of my goat feed
to attract them. Now, the person at the ticket office where we got the
food said the sheep wouldn’t eat it because they are “to picky” to try
it. How wrong he was! I soon had the whole herd on me trying
to get at the food! They love it! After it was all gone they settled
down by the fence (since it was quite hot outside) and allowed me to
stroke them! How adorable! Then the bulls come along with their 6 feet
long horns, and scared the sheep away! I think I should have let
myself eat a hamburger after that but I decided not to.

We finished the day with seeing the milking of a sheep (I’m not going
to into detail, surprisingly!) and the milking of a cow. The ladies who
were milking the cow were new and French and allowed her to put her
hove into the bucket spilling it’s almost full contents onto the
floor! The experienced people take over and get another couple of cups
out. The milk is them fed to the two baby calves who stampeded towards
their fresh drink like Sophie towards a unguarded hamburger!!

We had tons of fun and are missing everyone!

Mt. Snowdon

Today we are in Wales, in the western part of the UK, and it is beautiful!

Our family likes to hike, so today we had to go find one of the tallest mountains in the UK, Mt. Snowdon, and hike it. While it is not as tall as our beloved Mt. Hood, it is 3,560 feet high–you can see more information here. We were lucky with the weather, and made it to the top with no rain.

The Iron Bridge

Continuing our journey north, we saw an amazing site, the world’s first Iron Bridge! The bridge was constructed in 1777 and crosses the river Severn by the (you guessed it!) village of Ironbridge in Shropshire, England.

It is amazing to to think that this was built over 200 years ago–very cool! Here is a link to read more about this famous bridge.
